Real questions about titles.

I bought the car but the title is in someone else's name. Can I drive it?+

You can, but it's a risk: legally the other person is still the owner, so tickets and accident liability follow them. Put it in your name as soon as you can.

I lost the title. Can I get another one?+

Yes, we request a duplicate from the state. We need your ID, the VIN or plate number, and the title has to be in your name.

Can I get a title without a Social Security number?+

Yes. An ITIN or foreign ID with Tennessee proof of residency is accepted.

The car still has a loan. Can it be transferred?+

Not until the lien is released. Once the bank sends the release letter, we do the transfer.

How long until the title arrives?+

Usually a few weeks by mail, depending on the state. We give you the filing receipt so you can drive while you wait.

Do you handle out-of-state titles?+

We transfer titles from Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Texas and others into Tennessee. Bring the previous state's title and we'll switch it.
